Email Attachments in the Pods

March 29, 2007

So this appears to be the situation with opening attachments from Gamecock Email:

Using Mozilla browser students can click on the attachment and they are given the option to open the document. They can also right click on the attachment and access it that way.

If using IE browser students can left click one time (not double-click) on the attachment and the attachment will open in a browser window. Students can then save the document as a Word file to My Documents. Double clicking will give you the “you have to right-click” message so be sure to single-click. This does not appear to be true on all the pod computers, only some of them?

Another option would be to go to Start, open My Documents window and then click and drag the attachment link to the My Documents window. This will save a copy to My Documents. (Computer Lab has been recommending this option to students).

Also, talked to Lance and the computers in the lab do NOT have right-click capabilities. They only have the options listed above as well so no use sending anyone down there.

I hope all this makes sense!

Biology 572, New plant species

March 6, 2007

Students need to find a new plant species (after 1958) and then find information about the species.

Ideas to identify a new plant species

- Free current issue of Journal of the Botanical Research Institute of Texas http://www.brit.org/sida/SCBCurIssue.htm

- Search new species as a descriptor in Plant Sciences (index)
