RIA Checkpoint Account Creation

January 27, 2012

If students would like to create a login for RIA Checkpoint, please share the following instructions with them.  Neither TCL nor the Business Library has any pre-existing logins to share with students.

To register for a Checkpoint username and password:

· Go to http://ria.thomson.com/cploginids. You must be at a computer connected to the university in order for this to work.

· A registration page appears. Fill it out. See NOTE below.

· After you “register”, you will receive an e-mail with your Checkpoint username and temporary password (the usernames are fairly long and can’t be changed.) The e-mail contains a link to Checkpoint. (This normally takes less than 10 minutes.)

- Go to Checkpoint using the link in the e-mail you receive or go to: http://www.checkpoint.riag.com.

· Enter your User Name provided above. User Names and passwords are not case sensitive.

· Click the Login button. You will go through New User Setup screens, including a prompt to change your password. New passwords must be 7-20 characters and at least one letter and one number.

· Once this process is finished, you can now access Checkpoint from any computer that has internet access (it does not need to be connected to the university).

· If you have any problems, please call Customer Support at 1-800-431-9025.

STUDENT NOTE: if you are using Internet Explorer 8, verify that you are in “compatibility view” in order to accept the license agreement. To switch, clicking on the Tools menu, and choosing Compatibility View.

Serials and/or TDNet problems

January 10, 2012

Now that Chantal is gone, when there is a problem with serials and/or TDnet, we need to contact Joe Pukl and Cookie Woo, and we’re going to do it in a particular way, so that they can both see issues.

In Uscref, I’ve created a group “Serials & TDNet” (just type serials into the address and it will come up) that goes to both Cookie and Joe. When problems come up, please use this to contact Joe and Cookie, and let them know the level of importance–for example–”this is the only way to access this item,” or “we have in print and I’ve told the patron how to do a scan and deliver,” or “I just noticed this….”

You can email from Uscref, or you can email from your own account, but if you do the latter, please create the Serials & TDNet group so that they can can quickly identify them in their email lists.

Fraternity and Sorority notebooks

November 29, 2011

Send any student asking about the sign-in notebook for fraternities and sororities to the shelves on level 5 on the wall before you get to the CTE office. Take a right into the level 5 study area and the shelves will be on your right. The library doesn’t have any responsibility for the notebooks, we just give them a place to be kept.

TDNet or “Find Text” / TOUR troubles

October 20, 2011

TDNet is back up, but in case this happens in the future, last night I found articles in Google Scholar and then added our proxy prefix manually to the full text links for users off campus.  I copied and pasted the proxy prefix from a link to any of the databases on the Electronic Resources page and then substituted the link to the full text of the article for the link to the database.  Or, if you happen to be good at remember the proxy prefix, you could write it in directly.

The proxy server prefix:

https://pallas2.tcl.sc.edu/login?url=

The link to the full text article obtained from Google Scholar with the proxy prefix attached to the beginning:

https://pallas2.tcl.sc.edu/login?url=http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022199607000591

The proxy part is not necessary for on-campus users, who could just go to the full text directly through Google Scholar.  -Andrea
